What's On Your Bookshelf?

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

I'm proud to say that my bookself is overflowing with plenty of fantastic reads. Just yesterday, I added another book to that bookshelf.. Jane by April Lindner.

It's amazing to me, how evertime I walk into a bookstore, I feel like a toddler at Toy's R Us.

Which unfortunately empty's my bank account because unlike me, toddler's have their parents buying toy's for them.

Regardless of any of that, nothing thrills me more than adding a worthy read to my constantly growing TBR pile. So what I really want to know is: What's on you're bookself? What books have you picked up lately that you're super excited about?

Cheers!

P.S I have an exciting announcement so stay tuned in the next week for details!

Quote Of The Week!

Monday, December 27, 2010

Sadly, Christmas is over :(... I always hate when the holiday's come to an end...

And honestly, I have to say that most of my Christmas money went toward one thing, books....

Yesterday I picked up, The Hollow by Jessica Verday, My Soul To Take by Rachel Vincent, I ordered Beastly, and picked up the book that houses this week's BQOTW,
The Forest Of Hands And Teeth by: Carrie Ryan.

I'm a big fan of anything that has to do with the undead, so I knew this would be a book I adored. So far I'm on page 30 and it hasn't disappointed me yet.

"I want to sleep, I want dreams to pull me from this world and make me forget. To stop the memories from swirling around me. To put an end to this ache that consumes me." ~ Carrie Ryan~ The Forest Of Hands And Teeth.

Go pick up this book! I promise you, you won't regret it!

2011.. The Future Of The Publishing Industry..

Thursday, December 23, 2010
As we approach the new year a question that seems to be circling the world is: What is the cards for the publishing world in 2011?

Many people seem to think that in only a year or two, publishing will be all digital.
Ebooks,(digital books) either read on the computer or on your ebook reader,(kindle, sony, kobo, ipad)seem to be the hottest trend since the release of the DVD.(and even that has been topped with blue rays)

So what does that mean for the publishing industry? Does that mean that soon, we'll all be resorting to curling up on the couch with our kindles? And when we walk into our local bookstores, what will the bookshelves be replaced with? Computers where we plug in our ereaders and download the book instead of picking it up off the shelf?

Although, I'm all for the ereader. Not only because it saves paper, but because it keeps my bookshelves from overflowing.

But.... Call me old-fashioned, there is nothing I love more than a good paperback in my hands. The way a new book smells when you open it and flip through the numerous pages, is something I don't think I'll ever be able to part with.

Despite everything, technology is evolving. Now we have the ebook but who knows what the future will hold. I like to think that we'll still be able to keep both..

Alot of publishers are taking up the concept of printing their books responsibly.(my publisher included)That's where the books are printed on recylced paper.

So what's what your opinion? What do you think is in store for us in 2011 as far as the publishing industry goes?

Happy Holidays!
Cheers!

Book Of The Week...

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Happy Wednesday writers! Once a week I venture into my deep TBR pile and post a book of the week... A book that in the future I am looking forward to reading.. With so many great books out there(and me, having so little time,) at times, it seems as if my TBR pile is never ending. Every week I find a new book to add to that list so, without further ado.....

This week's book of the week is: Wither by: Lauren Destefano. Is it just me or does this fantastic cover make you want to read the book even more?

Wither is a dystopian novel, set in the future where the human population, due to some genetic disorder, dies off at a young age. Men at age 25. Females at age 20.

I didn't even need any recommendations for this one. After viewing the cover, and reading some of the reviews, I knew that Wither just had to be a part of my TBR pile.

And to make this even more exciting: Wither is a part of a trilogy known as the Chemical Garden Series.

This book is to be released in March of 2011 and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Happy Holidays! Cheers!

It's a Holly Jolly Christmas..

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

(My sister sent me this yesterday.. It said Merry Christmas.. Doesn't she look festive in her casts?)

Ahh, Christmas, tis the season of cheer and the season of giving.. For me, the Christmas season is my favorite time of the year. A time where you can unwind, spend some much needed time with your family, and curl up next to the fire with a good book.

At some point, I plan on shying away from technology and drowning myself in literary land. I have about 30 books on my TBR list that need some attention. So what I really want to know is what books you plan on reading this holiday season, if any at all.

Also, if you missed yesterday's post head on over to book buzzr and you can read the first five pages of Love Sucks or bid on the ebook. I'm giving away three copies!

Also on the agenda for today, is the dun.. dun.. dun... The Book Quote Of The Week!
This week's BQOTW week comes from one of my most favortie books of all time... I saw the movie first and used to pretend the oak tree in my front yard was Ashley Wilkes.. The kids in my fourth grade class thought I was crazy! How many ten year olds have lines from Gone With The Wind memorized?

That's why this quote is one here this week.. Because it's fabulous! And it's one of my favorites!

No, I don't think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how." ~Margaret Mitchell~ Gone With The Wind~

A Light Bulb Went Off In My Head..

Friday, December 17, 2010
I don't know about you guys, but I get the best ideas for novels when I'm dreaming. I even resort to sleeping with a notebook next to my bed in case I come up with something really good and I don't want to forget it when I wake up.

I had another one of those dreams last night.. So what did I do? You know the drill, I woke up this morning and wrote it down. And I don't want to spill the beans too much but I'll give you a hint.. It's a historical YA novel, set in 19th century England.

While I'm working on it, I'll leave you with a litte quote from it. More like a teaser for you to think about over the weekend.

" The papers called him The Ripper." ~ Lauren Hammond~ White Chapel

Take A Break And Write About It..

Monday, December 13, 2010
Have ever felt like you're never going to get there? Have you ever felt like you are plugging away at something never reaching the finish line? I'm sure we've all felt this way during one time or another. Let me give you the best piece of advice I've ever received. Write about it. If you've had a rough day and you're ticked off at the world, write about it. If today has been the most depressing day of your life, write about it. Or if you've just been given the most exciting news in the world, write about it.

As writers, our emotions often come across in our work. But that's important. It's important that our characters feel and show emotional range. That way our beloved readers can relate.

I don't know about you guys, but I can't get into books where I can't relate to the characters or fell them at some point.

"Write about it." ~ Amy Ferrell

Enough said...

Her LAST and FINAL Sacrifice..

Thursday, December 9, 2010
Do you ever feel it?? Yeah, you know what I mean. When a book is so good, you go back and read it a million times because you can't bear to tear yourself away from that world. The world the author has created..

That's what it felt like for me, when I read Richelle Mead's VA series.. I feel so
in love with the series that I could tear myself away from it. I re-read the first five books in the series at least a dozen times.. Until finally, the Last one was upon us, bringing this imaginative, and brilliant series to a close.

I'm one of those people that doesn't take good things coming to an end to well. I wept when I read the final Harry Potter novel. But, through the years I've learned that all great things have to eventually come to end. But... That's what makes them so great.

Last Sacrifice is about Murder. Love. Jealousy. And the ultimate sacrifice. Now, with Rose on trial for her life and Lissa first in line for the Royal Throne, nothing will ever be the same between them.(from goodreads)

Without giving away any spoilers, I have to say this book will make you laugh, cry, and make your heart melt... I urge you to pick it up! You will not be disappointed!

This was a spectacular finale to a stellar series! I can't wait to see what Richelle has for us in the future!

Cheers!

Video Killed The Radio Star...

Monday, December 6, 2010
Well hello there, lovely blog readers. I hope all of you had a fantastic weekend and are kicking your Monday off with a bang. Or, if you're like me and Monday is your least favorite day of the week, hopefully you're making your way through it with a positive attitude.

The Book of the week this week is Across The Universe by: Beth Revis. What originally drew me into this book was the cover. The cover is beautifully done and I hear the book is just as beautiful as the cover.

Secondly, I wanted to announce that I will be appearing on two radio shows this week, talking about Love Sucks.. So if you've read Love Sucks and or want to read Love Sucks, tune into Blog talk radio with Franny Armstrong tomorrow night at 9p.m
eastern standard time. Or Wednesday on the Artist First Radio Network at 7 p.m...

Cheers!

There's An Angel Among Us...

Friday, December 3, 2010
This week's quote of the week, comes from a book I just finished reading.. Honestly,
I can't shut up about this book or stress how fantastic it is.

Ashes to Angels is a love story told as a horror story and a horror story told as a love story, Ashes to Angels is as raw and edgy as the hipster characters whose blended voices color much of the ink like a literary tattoo.
Auryn, an angel, cuts off her wings - with scissors - in an ill-advised deal made with her demon twin sister looking for bail out of hell. Auryn falls out of the sky to earth, where she falls for Asher, failed artist. This is the story of the evolution and dissolution - a vicarious nuclear catastrophe - of their bizarre relationship: angel falls for atheist, poet steals from his own Muse, mortal rapes a supernatural, immortal commits suicide. As a paranormal dark romance, it makes subversive comment in poetic meditation on the impossibilities of love, the most lethal threat to human existence.

Now, I usually only read and write YA books.. But I'm a sucker for any kind of book involving a forbidden love affair...

Before Romeo and Juliet, there was Tristan and Isolde, and before Tristan and Isolde, there was Asher and Auryn. ~ Natalie McCollum author of Ashes to Angels.

Don't Quit Your Dayjob....

Thursday, December 2, 2010
Don't quit your dayjob... That's a phrase I actually find comical..Do you how many times writers hear this? I could put together at least five books everytime someone has said this to me..

The funny thing is, is that if I didn't hear people telling me this, I probably wouldn't have pushed myself as hard as I have. It's funny how a little bit of negativity works.

I set out to prove that no matter what anyone thinks, I do have the drive and determination to succeed and for my young age, have done so thus far.

In a way, I think most of the people with negative attitudes should be thanked..
Why? Because they are the ones who sit there and drown in their own pessimistic ways while the positive people with focus outshine them.

Sure the literay industry is a tough one to crack. That's just being realistic. But we as humans are unique individuals, who are capable of anything.. Never give up,
never suurender... Those are the two things I've told myself over the last five years and I wouldn't have gotten anywhere without them.. Live your dreams, don't let negativity ruin you... That's just how I roll.

Cheers!

Writing Wednesday..

Wednesday, December 1, 2010
Thing have been a lil complicated around here lately so I haven't had very much time to write lately. You ever feel like you have to take that much needed vacation? I know I did. But I found that the best thing for you when it comes to honing your craft is to take a step back, breathe. And maybe take a break for a few days.. Seriously, it works.

Today I feel refreshed, free, and focused. And believe me when I say this, the creative juices are flowing.

Secondly, the month of November has come to an end so that means NaNoWrImO is over.
:( Hopefully you all got a lot accomplished with your writing.

Cheers!!

Last Sacrifice... Book Of The Week..

Monday, November 29, 2010
For those of you who've read the fangtastic VA series by Richelle Mead, I'm sure you are quite familiar with the title Last Sacrifice and why it's this week's book of the week.

When I bought the first book in the series, I bought it on a whim. I was like eh, this looks interesting. So, book number one was added to my collection of paperbacks. What I didn't expect was to tear through the whole series in a matter of a week. Then, there I was, with sixty days to go until the sixth and final book was released. And let me just say for the record... It's been sixty days of agony.

I've read a lot of series throughout the years and wrote a few myself. This is by far one of my favorites. So Naturally, I'll be one of the first people at the bookstore next week buying my copy.

In the meatime, the first chap of LS is supposed to be posted at some point today. So keep on the lookout. I know I will be :) Cheers!

Asphodel YA mythology novel.

Tuesday, November 23, 2010
As many of you know, I have been working dilligently on re-writing my YA mythology novel, Asphodel. I have rewritten it from a completely different angle. I have pasted a teaser for you below!

A shrill, deafening, cry escaped from my lips. My mother burst through the door
as I bolted upright in my bed. Hysteria washed over me. I gasped out, panting, trying to steady my breathing. My mother swept me up into an embrace, whispering comforting words into my ear. “Hush darling, it’s alright.” I let out a long ragged breath, while trying to suck back the tears. Beads of sweat dribbled down my forehead as every limb attached to me began to convulse.

My mother squeezed me tighter, controlling my shaking body. “Calm down
sweetheart,” she said, consoling me. “ It was only a dream.” This wasn’t a dream though. It was a voice. A voice that had been coming to me for the last eighteen years for as long as I could remember.

Excerpt from Asphodel~

Book Of The Week...

Monday, November 22, 2010
This past few weeks, I have been extremely busy with a slew of projects I have been working on that I haven't had much time for reading.. But when I was recommended this week's BOTW I knew that I would have to make time to read it.

This week's Book Of The Week is The Forest of Hands and Teeth by: Carrie Ryan. I put this book on my TBR list a while ago. It was recommended to me by a few people on twitter and they assured me it does not disappoint.

Much to my excitement, I learned that The Forest of Hands and Teeth had a sequel Dead Tossed Waves, and a thrid book is due out next March. Now, I'm a huge fan of anything zombie related. I have heard nothing but good things about his book so, hopefully it exceeds my expectations!

On this side of the rainbow...

Wednesday, October 13, 2010
If you would have met me ten years ago, you probably would of thought I was going nowhere, fast. If you knew me, you probably would of thought that I would have eventually ended up pumping gas as my career of choice. It's funny how life works sometimes. Writing has been my sanctuary for most of my life but, it took the loss of a dear friend, and a brush with death to make me push myself. Most people, live in fear their whole lives. They never venture outside of their little bubble to see what's really out there, to see what they can really make of themselves. I was one of those people. Everything frightened me, failure, life, death. It wasn't until I died that I actually had a moment of clarity. I had to honestly ask myself what I was doing. What did I really want out of this beautiful gift called life? I learned that even though, you live your life one way, you can always change it for the better. You shouldn't live in fear and you shouldn't live your life full of regret.

In the end, writing is my fulfillment in life, my sanctuary, my passion. I was given a second chance at life and decided I didn't want to waste another second of it. Life is precious, it's a huge gift, wrapped with a decorative bow. And it's up to you, to make something of it. What are your passions? I couldn't live without my writing. What is the one thing you couldn't live without?

Gee Children Drugs are Bad....

I opened my the drawer of my nightstand, pulling out a tourniquet and a syringe. I set them down on the bed next to me. My hands were shaking so bad, if I didn’t try to steady them, I’d poke right through my vein, wasting all of my precious drug. I clasped my hands together tightly. I tried with all of my might to get a hold of myself. I breathed in and out slowly, waiting for the shakes to calm down. Once I was certain they had, I picked up the tourniquet and wrapped it tightly around my forearm.
Parents, friends, and loved ones always tell you that drugs are bad. But if drugs are so bad, why do they make the pain of every day life go away? And why do they make you feel so damn good?

I picked up the syringe, found a good vein, tapped it, inserted the needle into my arm, then, I let my whole world slip away.

Monday, Monday!!

Monday, October 11, 2010
Today, I've got another serious case of the Monday's. Monday seems to be the one day of the week that I never look forward to. With so many good books being released this month. I've decided to liven up my Monday's getting myself excited for the next book on my TBR list. So now, instead of Monday being blah, I have something to look forward to. This week's book of the week, is none other than, Beautiful Darkness by: Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. It is the much anticipated sequel to the best selling novel, Beautiful Creatures.

I read Beautiful Creatures a few months back and found myself counting down the days until the sequel would be released. Which is tomorrow btw.

I can't wait to get my copy! How about you? What are you reading this week?

Another Fun Friday...

Friday, October 8, 2010
Every Friday I always like to post a quote of the week. I like to give the readers of this blog something to think about as we move into the weekend. But, I'd like to try something new. Each Friday, I'm going to post a quote from one of my favorite author's books. Then, what I really want to hear are yours. What are some of your favorite quotes from the books you've read? This week, my quote of the week comes from:

"My heart shattered. My world shattered. You will lose what you value most. It wasn't my life... It wasn't even Dimitri's life. What you value most. It was his soul." Richelle Mead- Author of the best-selling series Vampire Academy.

Readers, comment to this post. If I like your book quote, I'll pick a week and post it on the blog. Have a good weekend.

Literary Agents: Friends Or Foes...

Wednesday, October 6, 2010
Let's face it writers, we can't get anywhere without Literary Agents, and if we do, the road to publication is much harder. And it also lasts a lot longer. So this is where the debate comes in. I've met a handful of writer's that curse them, saying they don't need them to get to where they need to be. The reality of it all is yes, you do. They have all the insights to perfecting your writing, they know all the publishing houses, they know how to make you a better writer in general. They help polish your work until it shines. The thing that bothers me, is that a lot of writers can be bitter over those rejection letters. Do you realize they recieve hundred of them on a daily basis? If you put yourself in their shoes, think about it, you can only pick a few of those letters than you find interesting to pursue. For me, that would be extremely difficult. Hang in there. There are hundreds of agents out there. You'll find the right one. In conclusion, literary agents are my friends. I'm not bitter, I realize their job isn't easy. Plus without them, you have to figure, how many of you favorite books would still be sitting on a computer screen?

So, what's your opinion? Friend or Foe?

I Hate Myself For Loving You...

Tuesday, October 5, 2010
The lighting in my dingy motel room peaked out from underneath the stained lampshade. I sat down on my bed gingerly, brushing a strand of my stringy hair away from my face. I used to have such beautiful hair. It was one of my best features. The long, thick, Auburn, locks glistened whenever the sunlight hit it. But not anymore. I had given that up for the high. Now, my hair falls out in clumps, has an abrasive dullness to it, and almost always looks greasy. That’s what you get I guess when drugs are the only thing you can think about. They infect you, poison you, and most of all, they change you. They change you in ways you never thought you could be changed.
Throughout my whole life, I was always told that there was a right path and a wrong path. And whatever path I chose to go down, the decision was mine, and mine alone. Nobody else is responsible for the consequences of my actions. A lot of the addicts I’ve met in the past year, always have someone to blame. I never have. That’s one thing that separates me from most of the junkies. Nobody put the that dollar bill to my nose and made me snort my first line. I did that all on my own.

Undying Love, Endless Anguish, Bring On The Torment!

Monday, October 4, 2010
I read Fallen last year. Honestly, I hadn't even heard of the author but, when I saw the cover, I knew this was a book I just had to read. From the moment I picked up Fallen, I was in love with it. So, you can't imagine the excitement when I discovered that Fallen is a series. Torment, the second book in the series was released on September 28,2010. Naturally, I picked up this book the day it came out, eager to dive back into the world Lauren Kate has created.

Torment, is a love story of a human girl named Lucinda Price, and a fallen angel, Daniel Grigori. The kind of love they have for one another is beautiful, challenging, and eternally theirs. Eternal because it seems that they have loved each other for a lifetime. In Torment, Luce is forced to discover more about her past. She is shipped off To Shoreline a boarding school in California, that houses Nephilim and humans. Daniel swears to Luce that this little arrangement is only temporary. He swears that he will come back for her. But will he? Always. The love they share has tested the lengths of time. And even though a dozen obstacles stand in their way, the type of love they share can overcome all of them.

I have to admit, in the beginning of Fallen, I was immeadiately taken with the book. In Torment, for me, it took a little longer for me to get into it. However, after I dove into the world of fallen angels, outcasts, nephilim, and love that never dies, I was enthralled all over again. This book was a great read. I would recommend it to anyone.

The third book in the series, Passion is due out in the Summer of 2011. Two great things about that is: One, you don't have to wait a whole year for the next book. YaY! Two, the title just screams, seductive, brimming romance. Hopefully it will be another great title, to another great book.

What Drives You?

Friday, October 1, 2010
Inspiration is such a powerful word. It can be a great many things. A person can be an inspiration to someone, so can words, music and so on and so forth. But what really inspires you? When I find something that inspires me, the first thing I do is write about it. So as we go into the weekend, think about inspiration in your daily lives. It can move you, and drive you to do great things.

I don't know anything about luck. I've never banked on it, and I'm afraid of people who do. Luck to me is something else; hard work and realizing what is opportunity and what isn't.
-- Lucille Ball

Serial Killers... Could you kill one?

Thursday, September 30, 2010
Serial killers exsist among us. They walk like us, talk like us, act like us. They could be anybody, yes anybody. They could be your parent, you neighbor, even the man you love. But say you were in love with a serial killer. If it came down to it, and you had a choice, could you kill them? Could you wipe them out? In A Whisper To A Scream, one of my latest novels, that question is something I asked myself repeatedly. If the person I loved was a serial killer, could I kill them? Could you? You're faced with so many emotions. Your head tells you the killing them is the right thing to do. If you kill them, you'll save hundreds of lives. Thousands, even. But then there's your heart. You love them. The way they make you feel. And how every single time they touch you, the nerve endings in your body, feel like a live wire. In the end, the most important question we ask ourselves is this; What matters more, the matter of the mind or the matter of the heart?

New Novel! Memoirs Of A Charity Girl.

Wednesday, September 29, 2010
I began this literary piece back in 2007. I originally wrote it as a screenplay but, like most of my screenplays, I go back to them and rewrite them as novels. I often find, that there is so much more to these stories that need to be told.

Charity Girl, is a coined phrase from the 1920's that refers to a prostitute. That's what I am, a prostitute. Call me a whore, slut, harlot, call me whatever you like. It was my own decisions that led me down this path, no one else's. I have no one to blame but myself for my actions. It's not like this was a childhood dream of mine. I didn't wake up one day and decide to sell my body. I did it because of the drugs. Heroin. It's like a magical gift to a junkie like me. And if you think for one second, that this would never happen to you, think again, it can happen to anyone.
I was you, you were me. I was your daughter, your niece, your sister, your friend, your next door neighbor, even. When you are a teen, you never think that you'll succumb to the temptations of peer pressure. I sure as hell didn't think I could. But look at me now. All it took was one line of oxycontin and I was done for. My previous normal life was a mere illusion. This is my life now.

If I Die Young....

Tuesday, September 28, 2010
I could feel his grip tightening around my neck. “ If you’re going to kill me just do it already.” I breathed. It wasn’t like me to give up with out a fight but, I was limited on options. “ I can’t.” He said, breathing into my ear. “ Why?” I asked, my voice trembling. I didn’t want to die. I had so much more I could be doing with my life. When you think you’re life is going to end, that’s when everything hits you. What if I would have done this differently? This, meaning life. What if I wasn’t so rebellious, what if I actually cared. I could have got out of this town. I could have done something with my life. I could have had some sort of future. Now, my future was slipping away. I felt it fading, and if his grip became tighter I would lose it. It was getting harder for me to breath. “Why?” I choked out again, breathless. He loosened his grip around my neck and I gasped out for air. “Because you Ellory Graham, aren’t like any girl I’ve ever met. And I’m in love with you.”

Let Me In! I'm Starving!

Monday, September 27, 2010
After hearing so many positive things about The Hunger Games, I finally hopped on the bandwagon, bought the book, and sat down to read it. Now after reading it, I don't think fantastic is a good enough word to describe the book. From page one, I was enthralled, fascinated, and in love with it from the very beginning. The story follows Katniss Everdeen, a young teen living in an area known as district 12. The U.S has thus been seperated and spilt into 12 districts. With the Capitol(Panem), controlling everything. Every year, during a time known as the reaping, a young boy and young girl are selected from each district, between the ages of 12-18, to participate in a bloody battle to the death, known as the hunger games. To save her sister, Katniss volunteers.
I could not put this book down! It literally obliterated my mind! For those of you who adore plots twists, amazing young love stories, and the choice between life and love. Pick up this book! I can't say enough good things about it! If I could give it a zillion stars, I would.

Define Believe..

Friday, September 24, 2010
The definition of believe is: to accept as true, genuine, or real. Do I believe in myself, yes? Do I believe in my writing? One hundred percent, yes. In an industry where struggling writers are a dime a dozen, you have to have self- belief. I can't stress how important that is. NEVER give up. Even if you get a million rejection letters. NEVER, ever give up. You crafted your literary masterpiece and trust me when I say, someone, somehwere will like it. Fellow writers, for me giving up has never been an option and it shouldn't be for you either. KEEP WRITING! Here's a quote for you to think about over the weekend.

Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe. ~Gail Devers~

Love Can Never Be Selfish...

Thursday, September 23, 2010
After leaving the mortal world for the underworld Hades had a moment of clarity. In the beginning of his quest for a queen, it was for purely selfish reasons. He wanted a queen because he was lonely, because he wanted companionship. But with what he witnessed today, he was beginning to retract that way of thinking. Love should never be selfish. It was whole, pure, and true. During that moment, he found himself wanting to be loved more than anything. He wanted desperately what that young couple had. The kind of love he had the chance to bear witness too.

You Are What You Write.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010
When it comes to writing, one thing I pride myself in is always writing from the heart. It's so important when you are developing characters that really put yourself in their shoes. You have to really put yourself into the book. Otherwise, you have a bunch of flat characters running around. And flat characters, equal a boring book. I like my characters to be strong, vibrant, vigilant. I try not to repeat myself and write the same character over and over again. After all, this is the literary world. There so many different books and I like the fact that I can offer my readers some variety. Whether it be a vampire trying to make humans understand her, or a man who'll journey to hell and back for the woman he loves, or even angsty teen who builds up this wall to keep herself from feeling. Relating to the characters is so important for readers and writers alike. That's why I say; I am what I write.

Who Killed The Homecoming Queen?

Tuesday, September 21, 2010
Then Principal Anderson leaned back down toward the microphone for the umpteenth time this evening. I was ready for this part to be over. I was ready to go back to dancing the night away with the man I loved. I was ready to tell him that I loved him.“And the 2010 homecoming queen for Warren G. Harding High is,” again a slight pause.I squeezed my eyes shut. Please don’t say my name. Please don’t say my name. “Megan White!” Oh, thank God. Adam shot me a look and I shrugged. Megan squealed out in delight as she walked over to get crowned. I knew she was going to win. Girls like her always won. And if Katie was here, she would have definitely won. Principal Anderson put the crown on her, and Molly came over with the sash. The next series of events seemed to happen in slow motion for me. I didn’t really know what to make of it. Because just as Megan White turned to face the crowd in the gym, that’s when Katie Halston’s body fell down from the rafters, hanging by a rope, knocking Megan White off of the stage. And that’s when all the chaos broke out.

Shout it out.. Speak Loudly!!!

Monday, September 20, 2010
Two things I wanted to discuss today. First I want to congratulate Val @truthbetoldblog who won the YA book giveaway contest! Congrats Val! Second. I'm going to be writing this post to show my support for Laurie Halse Anderson, author of the novel Speak.

Speak is a novel following Melinda Sordino a young teen who chooses to stay silent after being raped.

I read this book back when I was in high school about eight years ago. It moved me, but more importantly, it taught me things. It taught me that things like that happen in the real world. The real world isn't this sugar coated, sweet place. It's dirty, gritty, and harsh. I'm so glad to hear that Wesley Scroggins is living in a delusional, fantasy world. The man needs to take a reality pill.

The kids of the future need to know that rape is real, it exisists. It happens everyday. In many towns, in many schools. It can happen to you, it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.

What infuriates me more than anything, is that without books like Speak, we're sending our kids out into the world blind. We need to educate them on subjects like rape, so they can better prepare themselves for the harsh reality called life.

The only thing filthy and immoral about all of this is Wesley Scroggins. A blind, ignorant, blasphemous man who calls himself a Christian.

I'm religious too but, I'm also a realist. I don't live in a sucluded little bubble. You know why? Because books like Speak prepared me for the real world. Please support Speak and speak loudly.

Please Don't Leave Me, I Love You...

Wednesday, September 15, 2010
Persephone took off down the steps. This time she wasn’t going to let Zeus or her mother stop her. She ran straight to Hades, right into his arms. For a moment, he just held her and she felt at home. He pulled out of the embrace slowly. “I have to go.” “Please don’t.” She begged. “ I have to. We will see each other again my love.” Hades kissed her forehead softly and before she could get another word out, he was gone. She didn’t move after he left. It was almost like he was still standing there with her even though he wasn’t. Demeter walked over to her and put her hand on her shoulder. “Come dear.” Her mother said softly. Persephone walked with her mother out of the room. They walked together side by side all the way to her bedroom.

Be True To Yourself, Don't Lose Yourself...

Tuesday, September 14, 2010
I didn’t plan on collapsing into his arms but I couldn’t help it. I felt so secure there, so safe, so protected. Not that I really needed his protection. I took pride in the fact that I had always been able to fight my own battles. It usually pissed me off to see girls my age being so weak. Before Adam, I swore to myself that I would never be one of those girls. I would never be one of those girls who let their life revolve around their guy. You know, the girls who sacrifice their own self worth for the sake of their significant others. They lose sight of themselves, kick individuality to the curb, and morph themselves into whatever he wants. Before they know it, they soon become a weaker, diluted version of their former selves. It brought me back from the fantasy I was living in at the moment just thinking about it.

Love Sucks

Preface

Andrew took me by the hand and guided me to the end of the room. He positioned me in front of an elongated mirror. I gazed into the mirror intensely.
“What are we looking at?” I asked nervously. He stood behind me with his arms on my shoulders.
“Everything,” he replied.
“What do you mean, everything?”
“Watch and you will see.”
I looked at myself and studied my reflection hard. My skin seemed a lot paler than I remembered. My hair seemed fuller, and the mahogany locks hung down over my shoulder. I opened my mouth to notice my teeth. My sharp fang-like teeth were monstrous and scary.
I turned away from myself, ashamed of what I had become.
Andrew gently moved my face back so I could glance at myself once again. I looked up and was forced to stare at my distasteful image. Andrew seemed pleased to see me so unhappy. He leaned down to my ear and spoke so softly and so eloquently it was like music.
“You can run more swiftly and rapidly than you did before. You have a heightened sense of smell. You have fangs. You have instincts like an animal. You are incredibly attractive.”
That last statement made me smile.
“Your skin is icy and solid.”
He stopped, and I gazed at him through the mirror. He was so statuesque, so beautiful. I indulgently imagined him courting me and how much I would enjoy his company. Something about him made me fear and love him at the same time.
He spoke again and startled me. “Cara, I want you to look at yourself in the mirror.”
I did as I was told. He twisted a piece of my hair in his fingers. I wanted him to ravish me, I wanted him to embrace me tightly and never let go. I couldn’t understand what drew me to him, but I didn’t care.
“Why am I doing this?” I asked impatiently.
“Because, Cara, your image is telling what you want to know you are, you just refuse to believe it.”
“I don’t know what I am.”
When Andrew truly understood I was confused, he whispered softly into my ear. “My dear, you are a creature of the night. You are a vampire.”

Kiss Me, I Dare You...

Friday, September 10, 2010
What did he mean I owed him? What did he expect to get? My V- card. Sorry to burst your bubble buddy, that wasn’t going to happen. I focused on his eyes again. They weren’t the soft, delicate, lovely, eyes I remembered when he first sat next to me in English. They were hard, menacing, and something else I couldn’t quite put my finger on. What was it that I saw? Was it passion? Before I could clarify all of his emotions, he grabbed me by the shoulders and pulled my body toward him. He held it tightly. So, tightly, that there was no way I could escape. I was wondering if he could sense the fear that was flowing through my veins. It was sneaking up on me, chilling me to the bone. Then he pulled me closer, tilted my head to the side, and that was when he kissed me. The kiss wasn’t soft, loving, or sweet. It was hungry and ferocious. And it startled me. It startled me so much, I pulled out of it, threw my hand back and slapped him across the face.

YOU LITTLE PLUCKER!!!!

Wednesday, September 8, 2010
The definition of pluck is : to pull off or out; pick; to drag or snatch. What does that have to do with any of this? Well, I was plucked when I was fifteen years old. It never occurred to me that agents actually did this. Hey, what can I say? At fifteen I was young, naïve, and sheltered from the world, thanks to my overbearing and overprotective mother. So when Olivia Lennox approached us and plucked me out of the crowd, at our local mall, I really didn’t know what to think. The last thing I remembered vividly from my so-called plucking was arguing with my mother over a pair of jeans I wanted from The Limited. “ You don’t need a seventy five dollar pair of jeans.” My mother said with a calm tone. “ But everyone at school has jeans like that! You never let me wear anything cool.” I argued. My mother reached into the J.C Penney’s bag we had and pulled out a pair of twenty dollar jeans she had just purchased for me. “These are cool.” She said while searching my face for approval. “ No they’re cheap!” I saw the look of disappointment on my mother’s face and instantly felt sorry. My mother shoved the jeans back into the bag while putting both of the handles back together.

Vampire Academy... A School That Bites!

Tuesday, September 7, 2010
Let me just say that I picked up the first book to this series on a whim. I had heard people saying good things about it so I thought, why not? What I didn't expect was to fall in love with this series! Yes, you heard me, I fell in love with it. I read the whole entire series in a week and found myself going back through the books and re-reading my favorite parts. The story is set in a school known as St. Vladmir's. Only this isn't your normal school. It's a school where Moroi(vampires) and dhampir's(half-human half-vampire, guardians) prepare for the world outside of high school. A world where Guardians defend the Moroi from the evil Strigoi. That's where Rose comes in. Rose Hathaway is a guardian who pledged to serve and protect her best friend Lissa Dragomir. Lissa is a royal Moroi which makes her life ten times more valuable and it also puts her in ten times the danger. THEY COME FIRST. That is the phrase that has been imbedded in Rose's mind since she was a young child. But, with the Strigoi advancing attacks, and Rose's heart slipping from place to place, will she stand by those words? After all, nothing is fair in love, and war. Pick up this series and fall in love with it like I did.

Quote Of The Week And YA book Giveaway!!

Friday, September 3, 2010
I'm the type of person that becomes entralled with what I'm reading. When I pick up a good book I live in a little bubble that the author has created from the time I'm reading until sometime after I've finished the book. Good books leave a haunting absence to my soul making me constantly crave more.

The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it. ~James Bryce

Welcome To Lauren's Library YA Mania!

Thursday, September 2, 2010
I have been reading a lot of YA books lately. It seems like the ones that have been recommended to me have been so amazing and I've devored most of them it record time. However, my bookshelf is getting a little over crowded so Ive decided to do a little giveaway. All you have to do is respond to this post telling me which YA book is your favorite and why, or become a new follower on my blog(double points for both, triple if you follow me on twitter). I've listed my top five YA books below along with the books I'll be giving away.

5. Fallen- A teen love triangle mixed with feuding angels, a boarding school for troubled teens, and a love that seems to be forbidden. Yeah, I'm all over it.

4. The Vampire Diaries Series- The whole series was fantastic. If you haven't read them, I suggest you do. I mean who doesn't love two hot vampires fighting over a girl right? I'm still waiting for Elena's ultimate decision. Stefan or Damon?(I'm gunning for Damon (***wink***)

3. Beautiful Creatures - Who doesn't love a young man who will do anything for the Love of his life. Throw in a little Caster magic and you've got a stellar novel all wrapped into one.

2. Hush Hush - A angsty love story involving a fallen angel, rebel. This book has become a new obsession of mine. I always love the books where the love that grows between two people starts out as a little smolder and grows into a hot, blazing fire.

1. Before I Fall- This book captivated me, mind, body, and soul. The tale of a teen who has seven days to relive the last day of her life over again was undoubtedly appealing. What would you do? What would you change about the way you live your life?

The Haunting Absence Of Her Beloved...

Wednesday, September 1, 2010
She awoke not to the darkness of the underworld but, the light that radiated from the sun. She sat up slowly, opened her eyes and gazed at her surroundings. She was in the field at Enna, the field she was in when Hades took her. An icy chill ran down her spine. She was now alone, and the absence of her beloved haunted her. “ Hades.” She said softly. When she stood she spun around in a circle. It was almost as if she expected him to be there with her, even though he wasn’t. At this point her mind was playing tricks with her. She thought she caught a glimpse of him at the edge of the field but, when she reached the place she thought she saw him, she came to the realization that it was a mere illusion. She looked down at the spot where the asphodel was. There was now a new flower growing in it’s place. It wasn’t the asphodel but maybe if she picked it, she’d tumble back to the land of the dead and back into her beloved’s arms.

Aftershock!!!

I awoke with the most painful, throbbing headache I’d ever had in my entire life. I opened my eyes slowly as they adjusted to the light shining in them. I sat up slowly while looking at my surroundings. I looked down, I was still on the pavement. I must have blacked out I thought to myself. I couldn’t remember past me waking up on the cold, hard, concrete. I slowly rose to my feet and brushed of my clothes. I had a powdery residue all over me that was like cement that had been pounded on with a jack hammer.I turned my gaze to a large crowd of people that was standing in front of me. People were shouting, panicked, and seemed to be causing quite a commotion. Instantly, my lawyer instincts kicked in and I had to get to the bottom of what was going on. I made my way through the crowd, pushing this person, and bumping that person. I wondered what could have attracted such a large crowd of people. After pushing a few more people out of the way, I was stuck somewhere in the middle of it all. I glanced beside me to see a young woman weeping softly. “ Excuse me ma’am, what happened here?” I asked curiously. Only the woman didn’t answer me. She just buried her head into her hands and continued crying. Surely, there was someone around here I could talk to. I tapped a man in front of me on the shoulder, he didn’t respond either. What do I have to do around here to get some answers? I found myself screaming out at the top of my lungs and still, no one even flinched.

Beautiful Creatures = Beautiful Madness

Monday, August 30, 2010
This book was recommended to me by my friends on twitter. In the past, they've always suggested books that I had eventually loved. So when they told me to read Beautiful Creatures, I bought it. Now, I'm never the type to base my opinion on the opinions of others so, I decided I would form my own opinion of this book. And here it is. This book captivated my attention from page one. The story unfolds in Gatlin South Carolina and all in all is a tale of young love. A young love that seems to be doomed from the beginning. Underneath the southern decadence of Gatlin South Carolina, is a world of secrets, familiarity, and a world of the unknown. Ethan Wate, has never met anyone like Lena Duchannes and is instantly drawn to her. This book literally threw me for a loop. When I read the inside of the jacket, I was under the impression that the book would be told through Lena's point of view. But much to my surprise, it was told through Ethan's. I found that refreshing. In all the books I've read, you seldom read that a love story told through the male character's perspective. It was beautiful to read about a young man who shows his emotional side the way the way Ethan did. Buy this book! I found it intriguing, mysterious and at the same time, hauntingly beautiful.

Also, the weekends give you some time to be spontaneous, they give you time to do something fun. Not everything everyday should be all work an no play right? So with that in closing, I'll leave you with a lil quote. Enjoy the weekend! I know I will!

You Couldn't Hurt A Fly..

Thursday, August 26, 2010
“ You should listen to your mother, she knows what’s best for
you.” When it had to do with my mother, mother knows best didn’t necessarily apply. “Don’t even start that again. I thought we went over this.” “ We did, but she’s right.” Now I was really getting angry. After what had just happened, the last thing I wanted to do was fight with Delilah too. But, I had to get my point across. I wanted this to go so perfectly, so right. It ended up so disastrously it had my blood boiling. “ She’s not right, she has no clue what she’s saying.” “ Grayson you have no idea how right on she actually is.” “ What do you mean?” “ I mean that I really am evil and you’re mother is right.” It was like she was speaking some foreign tongue. I had no I idea where our conversation was going so out of utter oblivion I began laughing. “ What is so funny?” Delilah asked with a hint of coldness to her tone. “ That you think you’re evil. You couldn’t hurt a fly.”

I'd Die For You.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010
We reached my apartment building and I held the door open for her. But just as I did so, the ground beneath us began to quake. Earthquakes in New York, really, what was going on? Delilah clutched on to me and looked up at me puzzled. “ What’s going on?”
She asked fearfully. I had no idea. I let go of the door and stumbled back ward still holding onto her tightly. Right in front of us the ground began to split open. The shaking had intensified and Delilah fell out of my arms. I scrambled quickly and jumped to my feet. People were running down the crowded sidewalk screaming out in terror. I looked for her frantically. I spotted her a few feet away and ran toward her. Just as I reached her the ground behind her split open. “ No damn it, no!” I shouted at the top of my lungs. The concrete where she was standing gave way underneath her. She was falling, falling downward into the fiery pits of hell. I was prepared to jump. “ I saw the fear in her eyes as she called out my name. “ Grayson help me!” She shrieked. I gave myself a running start and ran toward the open crack at full speed. I jumped, closed my eyes, and landed.

No! Don't Let Me Die!

Tuesday, August 24, 2010
Her words were muffled. I couldn’t understand what she was saying. “Watch the road!” She screamed out! I turned my head for a brief second and saw the semi coming for us. I had no time to jerk out of the way. That’s it I thought. We’re dead. Our life is over. And just as the semi was about to crack the bumper of my car, Delilah closed her eyes. Everything around us went black. I was in a panic. I screamed out so loudly that I was certain I would lose my voice. The darkness surrounded us, it engulfed us. I felt my stomach bottoming out and I could of sworn that I felt the car shattering into a million pieces. Yet, my body still felt in tact, I still felt like I was in one piece. I felt no pain and I didn’t feel like I was being ripped apart. Surely an accident this bad would cause some damage to my body.
My eyes flew open and I was astonished at what I saw. There was no accident. What happened previously seemed to be some horrifying dream. Then it became a reality. When I glanced over at Delilah I saw it again. This time, I knew she couldn’t be lying. I saw the flames in her eyes.

Hush Hush, I Thought I Heard You Call My Name..

Monday, August 23, 2010
I truly believe that any writer always loves to read. I love a great book more than anything. So when, my marvelous friends on twitter mentioned the book Hush Hush, I was greatly intrigued. Now, I had read a slew of mixed reviews for this novel but I'm never the type to base my opinions on others opinions. So I went out to my local borders, determined to read this novel and form my own opinion. I tore through this book in one day. Then went back and read it a second time. I absolutely loved it! The best kinds of novels, put you on the borderline of fantasy and reality. You become so absorbed in the world the author has created, you almost feel like you never want to leave. That's how I felt when reading this novel about a teen named Nora Grey, and the fallen Angel named Patch who's in love with her. If you like an angsty love story full of twists, turns, and mind bending tricks, pick up this book! I assure you, it doesn't disappoint!

Love Or Something Like it....

Friday, August 20, 2010
I have been so blessed and fortuate to have love in my life. At times I hear it's quite hard to find so if you already have it, be thankful that you do. Don't take it for granted and be full of it everyday for the rest of your life. Love is at times, two sided. It can be harmonious, beautiful, and sometimes make you feel like you are walking on air. But it also has a wicked side. A side that makes you blind to the bad in it, a side that makes you numb. But that's why we love. It's not just about the happy times because, the bad times make us learn from our mistakes. So as we go into the weekend appreciate the love in your life, if you have it.

The Flower Of The Dead.

Thursday, August 19, 2010
I did quite a bit of research when It came to writing my third novel, Asphodel. The Asphodel, in Greek Mythology is known as the flower of the dead. And the only place it could be found is in the underworld. How does this tie in with the story? In some accounts, to the myth of Hades and Persephone, Hades planted the Asphodel in the field at Enna on a day he knew Persephone would be there. He knew her love for things living and he knew she would pick the flower. I wanted to touch on that. I've also heard some stories where he held her captive. I chose not to write about that. I still to this day believe that Persephone loved the God of the Dead and that's what I wanted to bring forth in this novel. I wanted to show that angsty, forlorn, forbidden, love that many have speculated about for generations.

I Miss Everything About You.

Wednesday, August 18, 2010
She didn't even hesitate to pick the flower. She snatched it from the earth so hastily, that she pulled up some of the root. And when the earth didn't crumble beneath her, thats when it all sank in. Hades wasn't there, he wasn't going to be there, and the fact that she might never see him again swirled around in her head. That simple thought made her feel dizzy. She sat down on the ground while trying to regain her composure and as she did so, a mental image of Hades flashed through her mind. He was smiling at her. It was the same beautiful smile she had known and grown to love.

Excerpt from Asphodel..

HEY! Watch Where You're Going!

Tuesday, August 17, 2010
I walked slowly toward the door while casually glancing down at my watch. I suddenly felt someone or something bump into me. I didn't get the chance to see if it was a man or a woman at first because all I felt was a bump, then I heard the thud. I looked own at the ground and at my feet was the most stunningly beautiful woman I had ever seen. I almost didn't know how to act. I just stood there, staring. When our eyes finally locked, she gave me the most displeasing glance. "Well, aren't you going to help me up?" She asked with a hint of annoyance in her voice.I extended my hand to her. "I'm terribly sorry. I didn't see you." She took my hand and rose to her feet. The whole coffee shop grew quiet while watching our little spat. " You should be." She stated coldly. "Excuse me?" I asked. "Should be what?" "You should be sorry. You heard me. You're not deaf are you?"

Excerpt from The Truth About Delilah.

The Wrath Of Hades...

Monday, August 16, 2010
Persephone began pushing on the mighty God of the Dead. And in one swift motion, Hades lifted her up and kissed her. She found herself fighting him at first, but after a moment, she couldn't anymore. She kissed Hades back with such an intensity that it felt like her whold body was on fire. Every muscle and every organ was eternally burning. The longer the kiss lasted, the more deep, and passionate it became. Persephone felt like she was free falling into the abyss of the unknown. And if Hades's kisses made her feel this way, she'd happily fall into the unknown for the rest of eternity...

Life. What Will You Make Of Yours?

Friday, August 13, 2010
Life. To Live. There are so many things we take for granted in our everyday lives. So as we go into the weekend, let's all take a moment to be thankful for what we have. The ability to live our lives to the fullest extent. After all, you only get once chance to live your life. So what will you do with it?

You're So Vain..You Probably Think This Book Is About You..

Thursday, August 12, 2010
To be Vain. Conceited. Egotistical. Those are words I could never really understand. To be confident, that's one thing, but to think that you don't eat, sleep, and use the bathroom like everybody else, that's another. I had a dream the other night. The words for this new literary piece came to me immeadiately. I have never tried to develop a character who over steps the boundries of the word bitch. A character who is so evil that maybe even her parents question her. The definition of Pride is a feeling of self-respect and personal worth. And that's what this new piece is called Pride. I have always considered myself to be confident but, pretty much the same down-to-earth person I have always been at the same time. So here is a sample from the new literary piece I'm working on called Pride.

Vain. Conceited. Vapid. All three of those words were used when talking about me on a day to day basis. I never thought my beauty was a curse. I welcomed it, basked in it, and bragged about it whenever I could. I never fully understood the meaning of the phrase beauty is only skin deep. I just thought that was something ugly people told themselves to make themselves feel better. I mean, I could never really relate to the ugly people in the world. I had never been a member of club ugly. Until now, that is.

Meet John.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010
In Love Sucks, John is a minor character that makes a decent amount of impact. He and Elizabeth are the leaders of the group Cara call her extended family. John is also Elizabeth's mate. He's normally focused on keeping everything running smoothly between the group, solving problems, and being at Elizabeth's beck and call. Cara often envy's the affection that John and Elizabeth have, hoping that one day she will be able to find her own mate.

What Now?

Tuesday, August 10, 2010
I stared up at the lid of my coffin while trying to doze off. I was still too startled to resume sleep. I kept wondering how I knew to get up during the fire. I normally slept so soundly. I reassured myself that everything would be alright. That no matter what the future held, I would welcome it with open arms. I wouldn't make the same mistakes that cost most of my friends and family their lives. I would change the way humans interpreted the word "vampire" forever. And with that promise to myself, I drifted off to sleep, into the darkness, not knowing when or if I would ever wake up.

What Sparks Your Creativity?

Monday, August 9, 2010
Alot of people ask me, what gets your creativity going? I think for everybody it's different but, for me, it can be a great many things. Sometimes zoning out to music, puts me in a creative state of mind. Most times, it's when I'm driving alone in my car. Sometimes it's when i'm in the mall watching the people that are walking through it. There has been more than a few times when I have adapted a character from someone I see in my everyday life. So what does it for you? What sparks your creativity?

A Quote For The Weekend...

Friday, August 6, 2010
Another week has ended. As we go into the weekend, pull a book off of your bookshelf and dive into it. You never know what kind of journey it will take you on.

A book is the only immortality. ~Rufus Choate~

A Book Like No Other..

Thursday, August 5, 2010
So I'm beginning to think that twitter is a marvelous little world where you can meet all kinds of fabulous people. Lately, I haven't had much time for reading but when a few of my friends were tweeting about this novel by an author named Lauren Oliver and I was greatly intrigued. Being a writer, I enjoy a good book more than anything else so I trotted over to my local Target and scooped up a copy of Before I Fall. Now, I truly believe, that IF you are reading a great novel, it will pull you in from page one. Trust me, I have read plenty of books that have been published and I have to torture myself to make it through the whole thing. From the moment I read the first page of Before I Fall, I was already in love with it! This book is fantastic and I'm telling all of you to go out and buy it if you haven't read it. I can't wait for Delirium, the next book by Lauren Oliver!

Forever and Ever...

When writing Love Sucks, the whole immortality aspect of it fascinated me. Living forever is something we never see. Sure we've seen a great many people live to the ripe old age of a hundred but, to live for all eternity, that's something that's non existent. So it got me to wondering, what would any of us do if we could live forever? Is there anything in your life that you would change, or do differently? I myself, was given a second chance at life. There a lot of things I took for granted until I saw my life flash before my eyes. I once heard a quote from a movie where they said being mortal is beautiful becaused we are doomed and any day could be our last. So tell me, if you could walk the lengths of earth for all of eternity, what would you do?

For all Eternity....

Wednesday, August 4, 2010
I motioned to the blinds. "Close them." He nodded. "Oh yeah." He clapped his hands together. The blinds came down and locked in their places. He then gently switched our positions pulling me on top of him. "Now," he said so softly I could barely hear him, "where were we?" I ran my finger up his chest."Focusing on eternity." I reminded him. With that my kisses overtook him. As they would for the rest of our unnatural lives.

Writer's Block

Thursday, July 29, 2010
I'm really not familar with the term writer's block and I'm not really sure who conined the the phrase. I consider myself lucky that I have never been a victim to it. In my eyes, my imagination is a vivid, wild thing, and it always takes to me to many different places. I'll say it now, like I've said it a million times before, a creative mind is always turning.

My Immortal Soul...

Wednesday, July 28, 2010
What would you do if you could live forever? What would you do if you woke up one day buried in the ground, not knowing who or what you had become? Thats something I wanted to touch base on when writing Love Sucks. I wanted to really feel my character, Cara Jones. I tried to imagine what I would do in her shoes. I tried to imagine how I'd react to my changing body, the absence of those I loved, the pain of trying to find out who you are in the world and then trying to deal with at all. A good writer creates powerful characters, characters the readers can relate to. So tell me, what would you do if you were in Cara's shoes? How would you react.

Push Ahead....

Tuesday, July 27, 2010
I never let anything hold me back when it came to my writing. When I didn't have a computer, I drove to one. When I had an idea, I carried around a notepad and jotted down ideas at every open opportunity. In everyone's life there are obstacles that you'll have to overcome but, you should never let that stop you. Keep pushing ahead! You never know when opportunity will knock at your door and you need to be ready to answer it.

You Had Me At Hello...

When I reached the bottom of the building, I turned the corner still running. I wasn't paying attention. A young, attractive doctor rounded the corner and bumped into me. I stumbled a bit and he caught me by the arm. He dropped all of the papers in his hands on the ground and bent down to pick them up. He stood back up and looked into my eyes. "I'm so sorry miss. I'm so clumsy." I nervously brushed the wrinkles from my skirt. "It's quite alright." The young doctor eyed me up and down. His chiseled jaw line and electric blue eyes reminded me of Andrew. " You coming from a show?" I looked at him confused. "A show?" " Yeah, you're one of those method actors aren't you, for one of those Shakespeare plays?" I stepped closer and looked deeply into his eyes. That was all I needed. From that moment, I knew he was my match. The one person who was designed for me.

A Moment Of Clarity...

Afterward, when I held the woman's limp body in my hands, it felt wrong. I dropped her body, and it crumpled into a pile in front of the doorway. I began to back away slowly. I was mortified, and I shook my head in disbelief. "No," I uttered softly. "Please no."

Thirsty Thursday...

Thursday, July 22, 2010
The smell of her sent me into a frenzy. I pushed her into an unlit nearby doorway. She giggled in delight. "Well deary, I see what kind of girl you are." I held her tightly to the door and sank my teeth into her neck. She screamed out in pain and I put my hand over her mouth. Her muffled screams didn't bother me at all. What I was doing felt so right at the moment. The taste of her blood on my lips was so tantalizing.

Tension....

Wednesday, July 21, 2010
While Audrey and I hunted, you could cut the tension with a knife. The funny thing was that I actually wanted to get along with her. She just always had to make it so difficult. Audrey sprinted ahead of me in a blur. All I could see was her red hair swaying in the wind. As long as I had her in sight, I didn't mind if she was a few steps ahead. When I caught up to her, I noticed she had stopped. She was lurking quietly behind a tree so I slipped behind the tree next to her. I glanced around to see a group of men with torches standing in a circle. I looked at Audrey with fear in my eyes. She smiled slyly. "Watch and learn." I shook my head disapprovingly. " Don't do it Audrey, it's not a good idea." She laughed at me maliciously. " Listen to the little newborn trying to tell me what to do."

Screenplays....

Tuesday, July 20, 2010
As you know, I not only write novels but I write screenplays as well. My love for the film industry began when I was a young child. A screenplay however is very different from writing novels. There is a specific format that is known as industry standards. In a novel, you have alot more room for specific descriptions where in a screenplay, your focus should be more on dialouge and actions. You should also follow the basic three act structure.

Let The Countdown Begin!!!

Monday, July 19, 2010
Alright people, It's not this day or that day anymore!!! It's official Love Sucks will be released on August 3, 2010. Sometimes in the publishing industry things can be a little hectic. Literary works get pushed back, pushed forward, and so on and so forth. Mark this date in your calenders people!! Are you ready to be sucked in?

Unleash Your Creativity...

Friday, July 16, 2010
Over the weekend, try to think about unleashing your inner creativity. Whether you like to write, paint, decorate, or anything else for that matter, just let it all out. Unleash it on the world and see what you come up with. Trust me when I say this, it will put your mind at ease.

There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human resource of all. Without creativity, there would be no progress, and we would forever be repeating the same patterns.~ Edward de Bono~

Next Stop... Sociopath Street.

I'm never short on ideas when it comes to writing. It honestly feels like I think up something new everyday. I had the image of a young woman watching her boyfriend enter a house and when he came out of the house, he was covered in blood. What if you knew your beloved was a serial killer? What if you were torn between your head and your heart? You know that you should tell someone because what he's doing is so wrong. But the way you feel about him in your heart is so right. Except for that one minor little setback well, maybe a major set back. That's what I'll explore while writing my next novel. So what matters more to you? The matters of the mind or the matter of the heart?

Pick A Book, Any Book.

Wednesday, July 14, 2010
I normally suggest different books to my followers that I have read or am currently reading. But due to the hectic nature of my schedule, I haven't really caught up on my reading. I'm not quite certain if every writer loves to read, but I know I do. I can get completely swept up in a great novel. Before I know it, it takes over my life. And ten days later, I'm still sitting on my couch more engulfed in the world the author of the book had created. So, I thought I'd take some time and compile a list of my top five favorite reads.

1. The Forbidden Fruit- This novel will tug at your heart strings as it tells the story of Peter Abelard and Heloise a student and her teacher who had a torrid affair in 12th century France.

2. Shutter Island- If you want suspense, mystery, and surprises around every corner, this book will give you that. Dennis Lehane definitely delivers!

3. The Seducer's Diary- I could actually feel the passion coming from Soren Kierkegaard's masterpiece as he laid his heart out on the table describing the way he felt about Cordelia.

4. Dead Until Dark- This wouldn't be a top reading list without a little Sookie Stackhouse, right?

5. Little Women- In Louisa May Alcott's debut novel, you have everything, love, heartbreak, and tragedy.

If you haven't read these already, you should definitely pick them up!

Monster In Law

Tuesday, July 13, 2010
"Don't worry my love, everything will be fine." " I hope you're right." Jared whispered softly. "I am right." I said, doing my best reassure him. Even though I wasn't certain that everything would be alright, I did my best to lie my way through it. There two things that I knew for sure: One, Jared's mother was coming for a visit. And two, some crazed, revenge hungry vampire wanted me dead. And at that moment, when it all sank in, I wasn't quite sure how I was going to handle either situation.

Excerpt from a A Sucker For Love( The sequel to Love Sucks.)

A Sucker For Love..

Monday, July 12, 2010
I started writing the highly anticipated sequel for Love Sucks. The title is: A Sucker For Love. In this novel, we will explore the life of Cara Jones as she tries to be domesticated. What's that? A domesticated vampire? Yeah, this should be interesting. But not only is this novel about being a normal married vampire. It's about handleing family, resurrecting old friendships, epic battles, and being noneother, than a member of the undead vampire community.

A Vampire's Tale.

Friday, July 9, 2010
With the Love Sucks released date coming up in the next week. I thought it would be a good idea to leave you a short poem over the weekend that's got some bite to it!

Awaken to darkness, on this place we call earth.
One vampires bite brings another one's birth.
A vampire wakes with blood thirsty needs.
On the warm, rich, sensation he feels when he feeds.
He stalks in the night like a disasterous beast.
And what once was alive will soon be deceased.
So when the last bit of sunlight diappears from the sky.
You better watch out unless you want to die. ~ Victoria Boatwright~

Respect... Find Out What It Means To Me...

Thursday, July 8, 2010
In the writing world, you meet a different variety of people. I cannot stress enough how important it is to treat others, how you would want to be treated. Along your journey down Literary Avenue you'll meet kind people, mean people, people who doubt you, and people who could just plain care less about what you have to say. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to lash out, how many times I wanted to tell those people exactly how I felt, but I never did. Is it because I'm a door mat? Is it because I let people walk all over me? NO! It's because I was taught to respect each and every individual I come across, no matter how they treat me. I'll tell you a story. When I was about five, there was this little girl in my kindergarden class. I was always a pretty likeable kid. I was kind, I included people, and rarely ever made fun of others. What did I do with this little girl? I included her, I played with her, I made her feel like she was a part of something. Now, here's where this all comes together. You never imagine what kind of impact you are going to make on someone's life. It's all in the way you act. And come to find out that years later, this little girl wrote a paper about me. And that paper won an award. You see you never know who you are going to come across in life. And it's important to respect each and every individual you meet. Who knows you could be talking to the next Steven Spielberg.

Queen Of The Dead

Persephone turned her gaze to Charis. "Charis, are you going to tell me?" Charis exhaled slowly.
"Take your finger off of the stem first." Persephone looked down at her fingers then back up at Charis. "How do I know you aren't trying to trick me?" "I swear on my sister's life I will tell you." "Charis!" Chloe squealed. Persephone imagined that swearing on your sibling's life was a very serious thing. She looked down at the flower one more time, then slowly removed her fingers from the stem. She stood slowly and looked Charis directly in the eye. "Now, explain." She commanded. " You cannot pick that flower because it isn't a flower that comes from our world. It comes from the world beneath us." Persephone was puzzled. " I still don't understand." She stated sounding confused. Chloe then stepped forward. "You cannot pick that flower because that flower is an Asphodel. The flower of the dead."

The Reasons Why We Write.

Tuesday, July 6, 2010
I don't know about you, but there are several different reasons why I write. It's not just because I'm good at it, or because it's my passion. There is a long list of reasons why I write, and this is one of them. Last Saturday, was my birthday. My family even though I'm 26, still likes to have birthday parties. So at my birthday party, I recieved a card from my grandparents. My grandfather, is one of my biggest supporters, one of the people who believes in me the most. On the card he gave me, was a message stated how couldn't of been more proud or asked for a better granddaughter. And that him and my grandmother had always believed in me no matter what, from day one. Then I saw him crying as I read it. I could sense that every word he had written, he meant, from the bottom of his heart. It takes moments like these to add to the reasons why I write. To have an overwhelming and beautiful experience like this, fuels my fire. People like my grandfather are one of the many reasons why I write. What are some of your reasons?

You're Undead To Me.

Monday, July 5, 2010
"What you are saying is impossible." I began to pace back and forth. " Those creatures are vile, repulsive, and evil." I tried to remember how vampires were described in the books I had read. Winged, wicked demons that killed for sport. That was definitely something I wasn't. Andrew looked at me confidently as I paced. " I can assure you my dear, you are in fact a vampire." I stopped mid-pace and gazed at him suspiciously. "Did you do this to me? This is your fault!" I lunged at him swiftly and he hit the floor. He stared up at me in shock. My fangs were barred and I hissed at him spitefully.

Independence

Friday, July 2, 2010
As we go into the weekend, let's take the time to think of our independence. After all, the fourth of July is Sunday. We should be thankful that we have independence. Independence makes it possible for us to accomplish many of the things in life we set out to do. So over the weekend, think of some ways, why you arer thankful for your independence.

The beauty of independence, departure, actions that rely on themselves.~ Walt Whitman

Your Support System.

Thursday, July 1, 2010
Behind every great writer, is a massive support system. I would never have gotten anywhere if I didn't have the support of my friends and family. Why are they important? They teach you to challenge yourself, they believe in you, and they are your number one fans. They are the people who have had your back from the beginning. My mom personally doesn't know the in's and out's of this industry, but she has always believed in me, and I am eternally greatful for that. This post is a shout out to every fan, family member, or friend that has helped me overcome obstacles, write from the heart, and taught me to be a better person. I love you guys, thank you for believing in me, and I am a lucky, lucky, girl to have you in my life.

Ideas, Ideas, Ideas.

I'm a firm believer in the fact that a creative mind never stops coming up with new ideas.I'm currently working on a new novel, which will be my third, and the fourth is already permanently lodged in the back of my mind. You need to take these ideas, and put them into action. Stephenie Meyer first came up with Twilight in a dream. She followed her instincts, wrote it down and look where it got her. There are so many great stories that are yet to be told. So tell me, what are you thinkking about?

Feeling Connected.

Wednesday, June 30, 2010
When I'm writing, I always make sure the topic I'm writing about is something I'm connected to. Readers can distinguish a piece you a believe in from a piece you do not believe it. If you put your heart into it, chances are, that your readers will feel the emotional connection. That's something I try to do with every piece I write.

Lizzie, Lizzie.

Monday, June 28, 2010
In Love Sucks, Elizabeth is the leader of the vampire clan known as Cara's extended family. She's kind, loyal, and just. She basically serves as Cara's role model, someone Cara would strive to be like or look up to. After living together for years, Cara and Elizabeth become great friends. But as we all know, not all good things last. And because of the card's Elizabeth is dealt her friendship to Cara is cut short.

AHHH What To Read?

So I was walking around in my local Target the other day, trying to find a new book to read. I try to read when I have down-time(which lately hasn't been much) but, I still figure I'll find time eventually. I have always loved to read, ever since I was a little girl. The first book I ever read was Little Women. I was eight years old. If you find a good book, it pulls you in from the first page. So I found a book I thought looked inriguing, so I bought it. The title is The Mistress Of Rome by: Kate Quinn. I'd pick it up, I've only read the first few pages, and so far I'm hooked. :)

Quote of the week.

Friday, June 25, 2010
I never would have gotten anywhere If I had given up. And nothing happens with anything over night. Determination is one of my favorite words. I blog about it often because I want the readers of this blog to believe in themselves, I want them to never give up, I want them to make it. I'm just concerned about myself because we, my fellow writers are a community and we should stick together.

Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. ~
